The article characterizes the current situation of the volunteer movement in Russia on the basis of data from studies conducted by large research companies over the past decade. The main conclusions on the available empirical studies of Russian volunteering in modern conditions in the context of the development of civil society in Russia are presented. The authors conclude about the positive dynamics in the development and popularization of volunteer activity, and most importantly, the interest of the population in it, due to the processes of formation of civil society in Russia. At the same time, there is the involvement of all age groups – both young people who are most actively involved in this activity, and the more adult population who positively assess the volunteer movement. However, there is still a noticeable discrepancy between the number of those who declare their willingness to participate in volunteer activities and those who actually participate in volunteer activities. This contradiction, according to the authors, requires close attention from state specialized structures and the development of measures to encourage volunteer practices.
