The Political Theology of Calvinism and the Decline of American Exceptionalism

Abstract
The article explores the political theology of Calvinism and its influence on the formation of American exceptionalism. Key aspects of the theology of John Calvin, Abraham Kuyper, and the Puritan foundations of the United States, which laid the ideological basis for the American Revolution and republicanism, are analyzed. The impact of American exceptionalism on domestic politics, including the Civil War and contemporary political rhetoric, is examined. The conclusion discusses the reasons for the decline in church attendance and the weakening of traditional family values, as well as the political debates about the future of American exceptionalism, including the positions of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
