Abstract
The manipulative influence of modern mainstream cinema on the attitude of young people to the LGBT theme is analyzed. The dynamics of the transformation of the topic of non-traditional sexual relations in cinematography is traced on the example of Oscar-winning films. The presentation of this topic in world cinema over the past decades has changed according to the “Overton window”, changing the perspective of perception from unacceptable to acceptable and popular. Homosexuality and gender reassignment have turned from social deviation into an approved social norm. An analysis of film preferences of Russian youth showed that young people who are fond of modern world cinema are loyal to LGBT movie characters and non-traditional sexual relationships in real life. A critical attitude towards the theme of LGBT in cinema and in life is present among the part of the youth who watches films, focusing on their themes and moral message.
