Abstract
The results of the analysis of indicators of the main socio-demographic processes that took place in Russian society during the period between the two All-Russian population censuses – 2010 and 2021, as well as, in terms of individual parameters, in comparison with the 2002 census are presented. Demonstrated the dynamics of the population: sex and age structure; trends in fertility, mortality, the ratio of urban and rural population both at the all-Russian level and at the regional level – in the Republic of Tatarstan. The authors note both positive and some negative trends, which were largely the result of an unfavorable period of the coronavirus pandemic that immediately preceded the 2021 census. The role of such a tool as a population census in solving urgent socio-economic problems of the development of society is emphasized
